Cinnamon Roll Smoothie, aka Almond and Walnut Vanilla Spiced Smoothie

WOW. I’m a big fan of smoothies, and I try to make them at least once a week or so (and more often when my sister is home making them, since I get inspired). I usually stick to fruit-based ones, and try to add in some cinnamon and almond butter whenever possible. But this one was different and especially amazing. I loosely based it off of the walnut and honey spiced protein shake from Minimalist Baker, but I just kind of went with what I had on hand. And it turned out so well, I will definitely be making another tomorrow morning! My sister said it tasted like a cinnamon roll, but it’s so much healthier! It’s like somewhere between a smoothie and a milkshake — I don’t know if I can call it a smoothie, since not much fruit is involved, but it also seems too healthy to be a milkshake (or maybe I’m just dreaming). Let me know what you think — smoothie, or milkshake?

Cinnamon Roll Smoothie (adapted from Minimalist Baker)

Ingredients (makes 1 large serving):

  • 2 large handfuls of ice
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup low fat yogurt (or yogurt of your choice)
  • 2 Tbsp almond butter
  • 2 Tbsp walnuts
  • 2 dates, pitted
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • Sprinkle of oats and chia seeds

Add all the ingredients to a large blender and blend until homogenous. And enjoy!

  1. Great recipe! You should share it at Smoothie OTW, which needs some entries this week. I’m just hoping that the link-up continues, because there have been some great recipes in weeks past.
