I’m not sure why, but I’ve found myself craving more miso-flavored items as the winter drags on. I bought some miso paste for the first time in the fall, and it’s amazing how much I’ve been using it — definitely worth the purchase (I went with shiro miso after reading up on the different varieties). Mint juleps remind me not of the Kentucky Derby, but of croquet and drunk adults. Because for about the first 10 years of my life, my parents hosted a croquet party the first Saturday in June. Couples would be invited to attend and asked to wear all white, and they would start showing up at around 10:30am to sip mint juleps out of frosted silver cups, nibble on shrimp salad and macaroons, and play some unusually competitive croquet. WOW. I’m a big fan of smoothies, and I try to make them at least once a week or so (and more often when my sister is home making them, since I get inspired). It’s snowing here in Baltimore!! So it was obviously time to break out the big mugs and try a new hot chocolate recipe. This recipe also marks my first Sips post, sorry I’ve been favoring the Noms! I found this one on the blog A Beautiful Mess – they have great recipes as well as decor and craft ideas. This hot chocolate is not as sweet as most, but it’s very chocolate-y and the cinnamon adds a nice touch. Continue reading
